We have just over a week left of the school year, and my "babies" will soon be moving on from Kindergarten and 3rd Grade. Their young childhood years are passing waaaaay too quickly for my liking. This morning, I told my boys that we will be engaging in one "fun" activity every day this summer TOGETHER. The camps and activities they'll be doing are separate. It's all about fun, being under-scheduled, enjoying nature, and embracing the "simple" life this summer!

Most of the things that I want to do with my kids are FREE or very inexpensive. The ideas aren't grand at all, nor do they need to be. I want my kids to enjoy their childhood and have wonderful childhood memories. For me, it's not about planning extravagant excursions, but rather, engaging in the moments. :) I compiled a partial list of some of the fun activities that we will try to do together this summer:
- Go on picnic lunches at the park
- Enjoy beach days
- Dig in the sand or build a sandcastle
- Spend time with the cousins
- Eat ice cream and frozen yogurt
- Visit the library
- Play tennis at the local courts
- Go to the driving range
- Have a make-your-own pizza day
- Go on a hike
- Watch the sunset
- Go to our local summer outdoor concert events
- Go on a bike ride
- Play catch in the backyard
- Watch a movie at the theater
- Set up a lemonade stand
- Roast marshmallows and make s'mores
- Go bowling
- Take a stroll on the boardwalk
- Go swimming
- Bake some treats
- Go to the farmer's market
- Ride the train
- Try ice skating
- Play splash
- Paint and create art
- Check out the tidepools
- Enjoy a milkshake
- Make a meal together
- Go to the museum
And of course, my boys will be playing basketball all summer long! It's their favorite pasttime. "Family nights" (aka game nights) are also a staple in our house! I realize that many of you work outside the home, and may not be able to engage in some of the activities I mentioned. But hopefully, some of the ideas are easy enough to do on a weekend or weeknight with your kiddos!
