Summer Fun is on the Horizon!

We have just over a week left of the school year, and my "babies" will soon be moving on from Kindergarten and 3rd Grade.  Their young childhood years are passing waaaaay too quickly for my liking.  This morning, I told my boys that we will be engaging in one "fun" activity every day this summer TOGETHER.  The camps and activities they'll be doing are separate.  It's all about fun, being under-scheduled, enjoying nature, and embracing the "simple" life this summer!

Most of the things that I want to do with my kids are FREE or very inexpensive.  The ideas aren't grand at all, nor do they need to be.  I want my kids to enjoy their childhood and have wonderful childhood memories.  For me, it's not about planning extravagant excursions, but rather, engaging in the moments. :)  I compiled a partial list of some of the fun activities that we will try to do together this summer:

  1. Go on picnic lunches at the park
  2. Enjoy beach days
  3. Dig in the sand or build a sandcastle
  4. Spend time with the cousins
  5. Eat ice cream and frozen yogurt
  6. Visit the library
  7. Play tennis at the local courts
  8. Go to the driving range
  9. Have a make-your-own pizza day
  10. Go on a hike
  11. Watch the sunset
  12. Go to our local summer outdoor concert events
  13. Go on a bike ride
  14. Play catch in the backyard
  15. Watch a movie at the theater
  16. Set up a lemonade stand
  17. Roast marshmallows and make s'mores
  18. Go bowling
  19. Take a stroll on the boardwalk
  20. Go swimming
  21. Bake some treats
  22. Go to the farmer's market
  23. Ride the train
  24. Try ice skating
  25. Play splash
  26. Paint and create art
  27. Check out the tidepools
  28. Enjoy a milkshake
  29. Make a meal together
  30. Go to the museum

And of course, my boys will be playing basketball all summer long!  It's their favorite pasttime.  "Family nights" (aka game nights) are also a staple in our house!  I realize that many of you work outside the home, and may not be able to engage in some of the activities I mentioned.  But hopefully, some of the ideas are easy enough to do on a weekend or weeknight with your kiddos!
