Welcome 2020 + Revisiting Eclectic Designs

Hello 2020, the start of a new year and new decade!  I felt like the past year(s) just flew by.  This year seems to be unfolding in a similar way-too-speedy pace.  BUT I am welcoming the fresh "restart"!

Eclectic Living Space

Towards the end of last year - the entire last calendar quarter really - I felt quite "blocked" creatively.  If you peruse the home decor/interior design segment of Instagram, you may notice the redundancy of seemingly ALL THE SAME type of spaces infiltrating your feed.  You know what I'm talking about... those neutral interiors washed in white/wood/black?!

While I am personally drawn to the "earthy" scheme, I realized that it is the fearless mixing of color, pattern, and aesthetics that sparks my creative juices.  I am eclectic at heart.  Anyone else?!  I am drawn to varying design styles AND love to cohesively bring them together.  Color and pattern - yes please!

I went back into my archives and thought I'd share some of my more "eclectic" mood boards.  Oh how I have missed the color, pattern, and design mix!

The following mood board incorporates my love of animal prints too!

I worked on the following design for a One Kings Lane challenge a few years ago.  I went way out of my comfort zone on this design.  I am naturally drawn to blues and whites, but decided to incorporate orange and pink into the scheme.  I looked at it as an opportunity to take a design risk - because why not?!

Bottom line, have fun with color and pattern and don't be afraid to mix things up!  Besides, white is out and color is (re)trending in design.
