One of the projects we crossed off our lengthy home improvement list didn't require any messy demolition or "hardcore" construction. It is also one of my favorite improvements to date!
Last October, we had a privacy gate installed at the entrance to our driveway. It's one of those things that I cannot imagine going without now!
CURRENT VIEW
The following photo is the only comparable angle that I could find that shows the house BEFORE the gate was installed...
We live on a private street with only eight homes, so it is very low traffic and easy to spot if something appears amiss. Hence, the gate installation wasn't super high on our priority list. We decided to get a bid for the gate while we were getting estimates to do some privacy fencing in the backyard (which we ironically ended up nixing in favor of hedges all around).
I am so glad we put one in! The gate has definitely provided a greater sense of "enclosure", plus I feel like it added to our home's curb appeal.
GATE DETAILS
Rather than having one big, wide gate, we put in a double-door gate that opens from the center. This configuration gives us the flexibility to open just one of the gates as a "door", or, if/when needed, we can open both gates up to allow extra cars onto the driveway for parking. Each gate is sturdy and has internal reinforcement.

We opted for a high-grade vinyl material in a wood-like finish in an effort to have it appear like real wood. It even has a wood-like texture. I also like how the color/finish compliments the stone work and exterior color pallet of the house.
This gate was a significant upgrade to regular white vinyl in terms of cost, but the larger upfront investment was worth it in terms of appearance, durability, and longevity. It should never fade, rot, splinter, crack, etc. - as warrantied!
